Let's be honest: long hours sat in front of a screen and on endless video-calls is not fun (or healthy). A virtual team meeting, creative workshop or training session is just not the same as face-to-face. We are social animals - we need and crave social and human contact. The social chit-chat, the smiles, heated debates, laughter, look of dismay and exasperation, a friendly hug, a welcoming handshake, a comforting shoulder to cry. It's not the same...just different!
But different doesn't mean it can't be good. It just needs a little planning to ensure it is not boring, monotonous, unhealthy and impersonal.
Over the past few months we have all mastered the art of virtual exercise classes, yoga, baking, networking, pub quizzes and even family dinner parties, not to mention become proficient users of new platforms such as Zoom and Teams.
So...why not use these current and new tools available to us to help us work, collaborate, learn and connect virtually? On-line meetings, workshops, learning events and even training don't have to be boring! It just needs a little bit of creativity and imagination!
